Price Quotes & Requirements
Some of the questions we are continually asked are: What do you need from me to enable you to generate a quote for us? Or, can you design a toolbar like Company XYZ’s? These are relevant questions and are sometimes very hard for us to answer without more detailed information. For example, Company XYZ’s toolbar may have an extensive web application behind it.
How can I get a quote?
It's easy. Call or email us with what you are looking to have done. We will contact you by phone or write you back to discuss a specification or requirements document. You can find bullet points of items necessary to be included in this document below.
The objective of the requirements or specifications document is to get all questions answered for you and us and clearly etched out on paper, so that we are all on the same page.
Don't worry if you're not familiar with a specifications document. We can walk you through it.
How do you come up with a quote?
For some projects, it can be very involved and take hours to formulate a good quote. For others, it can take a matter of minutes—if a good requirements (specifications) document is provided. But, what it comes down to is: how many hours it will take us to design, test and deliver your product?
We like to have a requirements document to work from to help us generate a good fixed quote. The initial requirements document might generate a series of questions, but it helps us better define your requirements for your project. Once we have a solid requirements (specifications) document, we can generate a very accurate quote.
All of our quotes are generated in the form of a man–hour estimate and include debug and testing—significant areas that are often overlooked by the customer. Some customers want their products to run on windows 98 and Windows XP and, in certain cases, this can cause added development time.
What should be included in my requirements document?
- For toolbars, artwork is generally overlooked. Who is going to do the button images? Do you want us to find an artist for you? Yes, we have a few graphic artists that we work with.
- Are we going to have to interface with a server? Are the scripts in place and what is the syntax?
- What is your time frame? Do you have a drop–dead date?
- Do you want an update mechanism in place?
- Do you want an installation? Is this going to be a web install?
- Do you want to code sign your application? Do you have a certificate?
- Will this support a multilingual environment?
- Explain to us the desired logic to the best of your ability.
- Is there going to be a help application?
- What operating systems do you intend to support?
- Who is our technical contact?
- Are periodic updates and maintenance desired?
- Is there going to be branding? For your information, branding is when you want to utilize the same toolbar for multiple applications.
- Do you want drop down menus, and, if so, what are the button types, e.g. dropdown, regular, dual dropdown, etc.
If the above questions are answered in your requirements document, it allows us to ask you the right questions to formulate a fixed quote and timeframe. It further allows us to give you our thoughts and suggestions based on our extensive development experience.
